Title Ranking the delay factors of construction projects: an ELECTRE-fuzzy ELECTRE approach
Type JournalPaper
Keywords delay; multi-criteria decision making; MCDM; construction projects; ELECTRE; fuzzy ELECTRE
Abstract The idea of managing delays in construction projects has been thoroughly researched in project management papers. However, there has been less exploration using appropriate Multi-Criteria Decision Making (MCDM) and Fuzzy MCDM techniques. In other words, there are many criteria and delay factors to be considered. Moreover, since project managers tend to express their evaluations in uncertain environments, it is advisable to integrate fuzzy logic with MCDM techniques. This research is organized in three phases. Firstly, a literature review is applied to extract potential list of delays and criteria. Secondly, an Electre-fuzzy Electre approach is applied to prioritize them. Finally, the results of Electre and Fuzzy Electre are compared in the third phase. According to the obtained results of Electre, B, A, D, H, L and E are the most important delay factors while Fuzzy Electre ranks them as B, D, A, E, C and H, respectively.
