Abstract The generalized half-normal distribution is an important life distribution that can be fitted to non-monotonic failure rates. This paper considers the generalized half-normal constant stress accelerated life test model under Type-II censoring, where the scale parameter of the generalized half-normal distribution is assumed to be the exponential function of the stress. We derive maximum likelihood estimators and asymptotic confidence intervals for the model parameters. We also propose the generalized confidence intervals for the model parameters and commonly used reliability metrics. The performance of the proposed the generalized confidence intervals is evaluated by Monte Carlo simulations and a real data example. Both the simulation results and the real example show the robustness and accuracy of the generalized confidence intervals, particularly in small sample sizes.
