Type Refereeing
Keywords Poverty Alleviation, China’s poverty eradication policy, Well-being, Quality of Life, Qinba Mountain Area
Abstract The years from 2011 to 2020 represent a pivotal period in China's poverty alleviation initiatives, with a strong focus on regional development. By analyzing panel data from the Qinba Mountain Area between 2006 and 2015, we explore the impact of regional poverty alleviation policies on the economic growth of contiguous destitute areas (CDAs) in China. Our results show that since 2012, these regions have seen notable economic progress, with GDP per capita increasing by 5.4% and county GDP growing by 6.6%. This regional strategy has enhanced infrastructure development and ecological projects, effectively leveraging synergistic effects that further boost economic growth. However, the benefits of this growth are not uniform across different regions, highlighting disparities in regional equity, geographic location, and population size. Importantly, these positive effects continue to be felt even after counties have escaped poverty. Our study highlights the importance of regional collaboration and underscores the vital role of ecological protection in the ongoing battle against poverty.
