Title Enhancement of the modulus of lightweight shoe sole polyurethane nanocomposites by nano-silica
Type Presentation
Keywords Nanocomposites, Polyurethane, Nano silica, Density, Modulus
Abstract Polyurethanes (PUs) are unique polymer materials with a wide range of physical and chemical properties. With a well-designed combination of monomeric materials, PUs can be tailored to meet the diversified demands of various applications, such as coatings, adhesives, fibers, thermoplastic elastomers, and foams. A wide range of PU foams from flexible to rigid (or tough to stiff) elastomers allows them to be used in diverse applications. PU foams have many applications, including thermal insulation, cushioning, buoyancy, energy absorption (packaging), etc. However, PUs also have disadvantages, such as low thermal stability and mechanical strength. Nano silica is among the most interesting nanoparticles many researchers have researched. The functionalized silanes as coupling agents can achieve stronger interaction between the organic and inorganic components. In this article, the effect of adding nano silica particles was investigated and compared on the two parameters of modulus and density of polyurethane, and according to the collected results, 5phr was found the proper point for these two properties.
