Title Preparation and Characterization of Brushite Calcium Phosphate Cement for Repairing Bone Defects
Type Presentation
Keywords Calcium phosphate, Bone cement, Brushite
Abstract The aim of this study is to prepare a biocompatible and absorbable bone substitute cement that is used to fill bone defects. Beta tricalcium phosphate powder was synthesized as the solid phase and 3.5 M phosphoric acid solution was used as liquid part. XRD analysis indicated the final composition of set cement contains beta tricalcium phosphate and dicalcium phosphate dihydrate. Brushite crystals were created after setting which cause the compressive strength of 25 MPa. Porosity and setting time were about 16% and 6 min, respectively. The low weight loss ensures the cement will not be absorbed before new bone formation.
