Abstract

Green supply chain innovation has received significant attention from researchers and 8 practitioners due to its pivotal role in mitigating chain liability risks, addressing consumer environmental demands, and establishing sustainable competitive advantages. However, the successful implementation of green supply chain innovation faces constraints such as limited opportunities for many firms to acquire environmental knowledge and weak capabilities to absorb and utilize environmental resources. To overcome these challenges, digital technology emerges as a valuable tool that enhances organizational information processing capabilities, offering an opportunity for effective inter-organizational learning. Despite this, little is known about how digital capabilities can augment green supply chain innovation within firms. Hence, this study adopts an inter-organizational learning perspective to explore the impact of digital capability advantage on green supply chain innovation. Drawing upon data from 221 Chinese manufacturing firms, the findings reveal that digital capability advantage not only directly contributes to green supply chain innovation but also indirectly enhances it through green supply chain learning. These findings not only enhance our understanding of the implementation factors and critical success paths of green supply chain innovation but also provide valuable theoretical guidance for firms managers seeking to effectively implement such practices.
