Abstract One of the major health problems worldwide is Tuberculosis, which can be treated using nanoparticles along with other drugs. This study was conducted to evaluate the antimicrobial effects of astragalus and garlic extracts containing copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) on Mycobacterium tuberculosis in a rat model. The study was conducted at Sabalan Daru Company and Tuberculosis Laboratory in Nahavand City in December 2019. The susceptibility of the strains to the studied mixture was measured using the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC), minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC), and disk diffusion after extraction and synthesis of nanoparticles. The treated Wistar rats (20 rats) received a mixture of garlic and astragalus extract containing CuO-NPs at the rate of 25 mg/kg body weight for 21 days after ensuring the induction of disease daily and were evaluated using the tuberculin test. According to the results, the bacteria showed great susceptibility to the mixture of garlic and astragalus extract containing CuO-NPs, and the tuberculin test of half of the studied rats receiving the mixture of the used extracts was negative. Considering the positive effects of the nanoparticle produced on Mycobacterium tuberculosis, it can be used to treat tuberculosis along with other drugs after conducting clinical tests.
